Fundza launches a novel and a collection at Camões

Fundza lança um romance e uma colectânea no Camões

Editorial Fundza will launch the books "The Masks of Truth", by Almeida Cumbane, and "Water", a collection of chronicles that brings together texts from 19 authors. The literary session will take place on September 6, from 17h30, at Camões - Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo.

In the case of "The Masks of Truth", it was published by Editorial Fundza following an open literary call at the beginning of the year. The book, essentially, seeks to promote a reflection on what, at times, seems obvious. It is a novel that mixes philosophical, moral and ethical aspects.

The story of Almeida Cumbane's third book is set in the three southern provinces of Mozambique, most notably Maputo, where the author was born. In reading the story, Cumbane would like readers to grasp the idea that not everything that seems is.

With the novel "The Masks of Truth", Almeida Cumbane makes his debut as an author with Editorial Fundza. "In a context where most literary publishers are from Maputo, Fundza shows strength and that it will still grow," said the author in a recent interview with Soletras magazine.

Cumbane is also the author of "Illusion at first sight" (novel, TDM Literary Award - 2016) and "The distant proximity" (short stories and chronicles). He is also the author of plays and scripts for radio soap operas. Having graduated in Philosophy, Master's degree in Education Sciences, he is currently a lecturer at the Instituto Superior Politécnico de Gaza.

As for "Água", it is a literary work that results from a chronicle contest, launched last year and organized by the Kulemba Association, as part of the Beira Book Fair (FLIB 2021). By instituting the contest of chronicles about water, Kulemba intended to activate in the university students the ability to participate in the debate about climate change through literary art. Thus, 19 authors had been selected for the anthology whose stories touch, roughly, the irony, the burlesque and the absurd. Among the authors are Adelino Albano Luís (first place in the chronicles contest), Fernando Cambedza (second place), Arlindo José Cossa (third place), Luís Nhazilo, Joaquim Oliveira, Iralinda Pelembe, Célia Simango and Elsa Sande.

The two books by Editorial Fundza will be presented at Camões - Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo by writer Manuel Mutimucuio.
