Venâncio Mondlane removed from Maputo Municipal Assembly

Venâncio Mondlane afastado da Assembleia Municipal de Maputo

Venâncio Mondlane, the former rapporteur of the Renamo caucus in the Assembly of the Republic, has lost his mandate as a member of the Maputo Municipal Assembly for not attending the investiture ceremony at any session and not justifying his absences.

The decision is based on Article 66(7) of Law 12/2023 of August 25, which states that "a member who is absent at the time of his or her investiture and who does not provide justification within 30 days of his or her investiture shall forfeit his or her mandate.

The members of the Municipal Assembly began their work around two months ago. This week, on Wednesday, the need to regularize the Municipal Assembly's staff was discussed.

"The Member of the Municipal Assembly shall lose his/her mandate in the following cases: c) he/she fails to take a seat in the Municipal Assembly or exceeds the number of absences established in the law and the regulations."

"We, as Renamo, because we need to continue with the number of members we have, our caucus has been harmed because of this absence and, therefore, we prefer to let the law be complied with," said Marcial Macome, quoted by the "The Country".
