Bank of Mozambique stops contributing to fuel imports as of this month

Banco de Moçambique deixa de comparticipar na importação de combustíveis a partir deste mês

The central bank has revealed that from June 5 it will stop contributing to the payment of bills for fuel imports into the country. The information was issued late Wednesday in a statement.

The note from the Bank of Mozambique, signed by the director of the Markets and Reserve Management Department of the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market, Carlos João Baptista, does not provide any further details on the measure.

The WB's decision coincides with the day on which the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to increase the Mandatory Reserves coefficients for the national currency by 28% and for foreign currency by 39.5%, which will have an impact on the circulation of currency in the national economy.
