Mozambique will invest in the installation of an assembly unit for electric buses

Moçambique vai apostar na instalação de unidade de montagem de autocarros eléctricos

The government and a private partner intend to set up an electric bus assembly plant in the country to boost passenger transport in Mozambique, with the long-term aim of using national graffiti to produce lithium batteries.

Initially, the factory will assemble around 1,000 buses with a range of 300 kilometers per day. The first 100 buses will be imported and the rest assembled in Mozambique.

This is a private initiative that was recently presented at an event attended by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, and other government entities, as well as the private operator who is the project's mentor.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has been implementing a number of initiatives to solve the problem of passenger transport, most notably the purchase of articulated buses and the introduction of passenger trains.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance, through the Mozambican Tax Authority, will play an important role in the customs clearance of the equipment for the factory, as well as the kits for the bus assembly line.
