Court annuls Renamo dismissals that took place out of office

Tribunal anula demissões na Renamo ocorridas fora de mandato

On April 17, the Judicial Court of Maputo City ordered the suspension of the restructuring recently carried out by the current leadership of the Renamo party. The measure should be in force until the Renamo Congress is held.

It's a new ruling in favor of the party's deputy, Venâncio Mondlane, who filed an injunction to annul "the mass dismissals that have been taking place".

Allegedly because of internal rifts, Ossufo Momade's leadership decided to remove all his opponents, including Venâncio Mondlane. Delegates were removed and, in particular, the MP lost his position as Rapporteur of the Renamo bench in the Assembly of the Republic and as Political Advisor to Ossufo Momade at national level.

However, these moves took place after O. Momade's term as party president had expired, and before the party congress that is due to elect a new leader.

At a press conference, Venâncio Mondlane explained that the request for annulment of the mass exonerations had first been decided in his favor, but the last one was in favor of Renamo. An appeal against the annulment of the last court decision was again in Venâncio Mondlane's favor.
