Mozambique and SADC member states align coordinated border management

Moçambique e Estados-membros das SADC alinham gestão coordenada de fronteiras

Mozambique has just moved towards coordinated border management with the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as part of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement, ratified in December last year.

To this end, the country received the National Strategy for Coordinated Border Management from the SADC Secretariat yesterday in Maputo.

The strategy aims to strengthen the mechanisms for coordination and cooperation between the institutions of the Mozambican government and the member states of the community on the customs clearance of goods, means of transport and people at border posts.

Speaking when the document was handed over, the Deputy Director General of Mozambique Customs, Fernando Alage, said that the process was part of a set of trade facilitation strategies.

He also said that the document would allow for better organization, speed and red tape in trade with countries in the region.

In this way, Alage said, Mozambique is demonstrating its commitment to coordinated border management, with a view to raising more revenue for the country in the near future.
