National ports without cargo handling containers

Portos nacionais sem contentores para manuseamento de carga

The scarcity of containers in the national ports for the transport of goods has forced Mozambican operators to move cargo in bags, despite all the risks that this may entail.

This situation has been inflating the cost of freight, since there is a lot of demand and little supply of these logistical tools for export.

If before the price of transporting rice from India to African countries was fixed at about $600 per container, for example, today the cost has risen to $5,000.

The imbroglio begins with the outbreak of covid-19, which forced several countries to declare "lock downs" to prevent the spread of the disease, which eventually caused a stock-outs situation almost worldwide.

Therefore, the lack of containers has caused serious disruptions in the logistics chain of the country. There are reported cases in which there are ready goods, in the national ports, but it is not possible to find containers to transport them to the international market.
