Mozambique's airports to drop by 56% between 2019 and 2021

Aeroportos de Moçambique regista uma queda de 56% entre 2019 e 2021

Mozambique Airport, a public company, will decrease from 3.5 billion meticals in 2019 to 1.5 billion meticals (22 million meticais) in 2021, said the company's president, Américo Muchanga.

"Our company, in 2019, had revenues of around 3.5 billion meticais. These revenues, in 2020, fell to 1.5 billion meticais and, even with the slight recovery seen in 2021, revenues remained at 1.5 billion meticais," explained the official.

Among the airports that brought the least revenue to the company, Américo Muchanga highlights the infrastructures at Lichinga and Tete, in central Mozambique, as well as Inhambane, in the south of the country.

For the president of the company, despite the negative numbers, he believes that the end of the restrictions imposed by covid-19 can open a new chapter, with the revitalization of sectors such as tourism.

"Every time the country opens up to travel, tourism actions and doing high business there is always a positive message for civil aviation," Muchanga said.
