TSU: Government and doctors in negotiations to avoid strike

TSU: Governo e médicos em negociações para evitar a greve

The Single Wage Scale (TSU) is generating great pandemonium in the civil service. With five days to go until the start of their strike, the doctors are determined to follow what is already a harbinger of chaos in the national health system.

With clenched fists, the class is threatening to paralyze the National Health Service, including educational institutions, medical examinations and medicine warehouses, in almost 90%, guaranteeing minimum services through a team that varies from one to two doctors a day, depending on the specialty.

The Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago, is aware of the impact that the decision of his professional colleagues will have on the country, and guarantees that everything is being done to avoid a strike.

"We don't want a strike. A strike has unpredictable consequences for the health system, where there is a reduction in specialized services. As we speak, there are teams that are negotiating with the Medical Association, because for the government, the solution always lies in dialog," said Tiago, without saying whether or not there will be an outcome before the strike is due to begin.

The strike announced by the doctors is caused by the new salary scale in use since last month in the civil service, which is generating pandemonium in all sectors.

In addition to the doctors, magistrates from the Public Prosecutor's Office are also considering going on strike and, on Tuesday (1), employees from the Ministry of Economy and Finance temporarily stopped work to demand explanations for what they consider to be unfair pay.
