Bridge over the Búzi River may be inaugurated in December

Ponte sobre o Búzi pode ser inaugurada em Dezembro

The coordinator of the Buzi bridge project, André Vilanculos, guaranteed that the infrastructure will be operational in December, since the works are at a good pace, already 85% ahead. This is the bridge connecting Guara-Guara and Bândua, on the Tica-Búzi-Nova-Sofala road, and will be 700 meters long.

Vilanculos was speaking during a visit by Sofala State Secretary Stella Zeca, pointing out that the last of the 23 pillars needed for the infrastructure had been located, marking a decisive phase in the concreting of the 23 spans, of which four are missing.

Regarding the 134-kilometer road project, the widening and asphalting work, underway since 2018, valued at $118 million (7.6 billion meticais), funded by India's Exim-Bank, is currently 55% from completion.

Carried out by Indian contractor AFLONS under the supervision of WAPIOS, the project was supposed to be completed last April, but deadlines were extended until July 2022 after tropical cyclones Idai, Chalane and Eloise passed.

The Secretary of State expressed satisfaction with the progress of the works, with 20 kilometers already paved. However, there was a need for more speed, especially given the approach of the rainy season in October.

Stela Zeca stressed that the completion of the works will allow the coastal district of Búzi a greater socio-economic development, boosting trade and the free movement of people and goods.

Búzi has potential in agriculture, cattle breeding, fishing, guano in the Estaquinha caves, oilseeds, and tourism at the Mwenhe-Mukuro Sanctuary in the administrative post of Nova-Sofala.
