PepsiCo shuts down Pepsi and 7Up production

PepsiCo encerra produção de Pepsi e 7Up

The American company PespiCo has shut down production of three soft drink brands, namely Pespi, 7Up and Mountain Dew. Almost six months ago the firm warned that it would abandon its productions in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.

According to Reuters, the last productions of Pepsi in Moscow date from July to August 17.

Contacted, the American company confirmed the suspension of production of concentrates for PepsiCola, Mirinda, 7Up and Mountain Dew in Russia.

"All concentrates have subsequently been sold out in Russia and production has ended," said a PepsiCo spokesperson quoted by that media outlet.

In March of this year PepsiCo said that in addition to suspending soft drink production it would also cancel promotional and advertising activities in Russia.

Russia was the target of trade and political sanctions because of its "special operation" in Ukraine, but the West did not sanction food and drink.

By 2021, Russia was the third largest market for New York-based Pepsi, after the United States and Mexico.

PepsiCo in March said it would continue to sell daily essentials in Russia, such as milk and other dairy offerings, baby formula and baby food. The company has operated in Russia for more than 60 years and its "colas" were one of the few Western products allowed in the Soviet Union before its collapse.
