Nyusi inaugura sistema de electricidade no interior de Cabo Delgado

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated, early Friday afternoon, an electricity grid system, budgeted 92 million meticals, in the administrative post of Ncumpe, in Cabo Delgado province.

The president highlighted the government's commitment to bring electric power to everyone in the ambition to doptar the country with the necessary conditions for development.

The project, which should benefit 1,500 families in the interior of the Namuno district, includes a network of 60 kilometers of medium voltage and 30 kilometers of low voltage lines, as well as the installation of 12 transformation posts at the headquarters of the administrative post, located 281 kilometers from the provincial capital (Pemba).

The project is part of the universal access plan until 2030 that is being developed by the public company Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM).

According to the top state official, the new infrastructure will boost Namuno's growth, boosting the value chain of productive sectors and enhancing the efficiency of state services, especially health units.

"This movement should culminate with the lighting of all the headquarters of the 135 administrative posts in the country and is the path to universal energy access by 2030, during this government cycle," he stressed.

In Cabo Delgado province, of the 56 existing administrative posts, EDM has already covered at least 30, according to data from the electricity company.

Recently, the head of state pointed out that by the end of December 2021, the country had 44% of the population with access to electricity and the goal is to reach 64% by 2024.
