Norway announces an extraordinary aid package for food security in Mozambique

Norway today announced a strengthening of bilateral relations with Mozambique, with the signing of an extraordinary aid package for food security. The two countries' agreements also include ocean management and energy projects. 

According to a statement from the Norwegian embassy, the agreements were signed during a visit to Maputo by the Norwegian Minister of International Development, Anne Beathe Tvinnereim.

"Food security is a fundamental feature of Norwegian development policy," said Anne Beathe Tvinnereim, quoted by Lusa.

To this end, the Norwegian government has allocated a package of aid to countries affected by the war in Ukraine in the price of fertilizers and energy and "around 10 million dollars will go to partners in Mozambique", with "the funds being invested in food security".

For maritime projects, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on the Ocean for Development program, to strengthen maritime management and improve food security and livelihoods. In the area of energy, a 4.2 million dollar contract was signed to develop regulations for the sector.
