Nokia will plant trees in Mozambique for every smartphone sold

Nokia vai plantar árvores em Moçambique por cada smartphone vendido

The Finnish company HMD Global, which develops cell phones under the Nokia brand, recently announced that it will plant a tree in Mozambique or Madagascar for every smartphone sold.

This is a new initiative from Nokia, in partnership with Ecologi, called "Lets Plant Together", which commits to plant new trees at the same rate of each unit of the X, G series and the new T20 tablet sold, according to notebookcheck. And for the company that owns the rights to Nokia, the measure is another addition to the sustainability of its smartphone business.

However, this purpose of Nokia and Ecologi only takes effect for devices purchased in Europe. So, over there, those who wish to participate in the purpose must register the IMEI number (or PSN number in the case of a T20) of their eligible cell phone in order to have their tree planted.

For each Nokia G50 there will be 10 trees for planting; for the Nokia X10, X20 and Tablet T20 series 20 trees will be planted for each model; and finally 50 trees will be planted for the Nokia XR20 model smartphones.

Notebookcheck, reports that the project aims to plant up to 35,000 trees.

Nokia's latest smartphone releases appear as sustainability-focused products: for example, the X10 comes in 100% recyclable packaging, and is just one of several devices that have up to three years of official Android OS updates and security patches.
