Mozambique to export 100 megawatts of electricity to Botswana

Moçambique vai exportar 100 megawatts de energia eléctrica para o Botswana

Mozambique will export 100 megawatts of electricity to Botswana, starting this year. For this purpose, Electridade de Moçambique (EDM) and the public electricity company of Botswana, signed an agreement to buy and sell electricity produced in Mozambique, as part of the visit of the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, to that country..

From the deal, EDM will be able to cash in on about $12 million per month.

To Rádio Moçambique, the President of the Board of Directors of Electricidade de Moçambique, Marcelino Alberto, said that the agreement opens another opportunity to export electricity to the market of Southern African countries.

"This is non-firm power, it is only supplied when requested, so it depends on demand and Botswana has at the moment a deficit of power that it gets from Mozambique and South Africa. So on demand we supply. So we can't give the total we will fit, it depends on their needs," he said.

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, who witnessed the signing of the Agreement between the two power supply companies, said that the act consolidates the good relations between Mozambique and Botswana.
