Sentencing of teacher accused of sexual harassment in Inhambane scheduled for May 2

Leitura da sentença do professor acusado de assédio sexual em Inhambane agendada para 2 de Maio

The Homoíne Judicial Court in Inhambane, in the south of the country, has scheduled for next Thursday, May 2, the sentencing of a teacher at the local 25 de Setembro Secondary School, accused of sexual harassment and sexual practice with his 16-year-old pupil.

The events took place last December and yesterday (23) was the trial of the case.

According to the indictment presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the start of the hearing and trial, in order to sexually abuse the girl, the teacher invited her to a boarding house somewhere in the village of Homoíne.

According to the Radio MozambiqueAt the scene, the suspect first got drunk and then dragged the victim into one of the rooms of the guesthouse, where he undressed her and had sexual intercourse.

After the act, the 16-year-old girl, who supposedly had never had sex, complained of pain and decided to confess to the pastor of her church who, frightened, told the girl's parents and urged them to report the case.

The girl says she gave in to the teacher's pressure allegedly because he had failed her in the tenth grade the previous year, adding that the teacher threatened her daily with a failing grade if she continued to refuse to satisfy her sexual appetite.

Before the panel of judges at the Homoíne Judicial Court, the teacher denied all the accusations, claiming that outside the school grounds, he had only met his pupil once, on the public highway.

However, the public prosecutor, Lúcia Raúl, considers that there is sufficient evidence for the exemplary conviction of the English teacher at the 25 de Setembro Secondary School in Homoíne.

Another case of harassment and sexual activity with a minor, involving a teacher, took place in one of the schools in the Jangamo district and is awaiting trial in the next few days.
