Government to introduce minimum tariffs for telecommunications soon

Governo vai introduzir em breve tarifas mínimas para telecomunicações

The government, through the National Communications Institute of Mozambique (INCM), will soon introduce a set of minimum telecommunications tariffs as a way of establishing a balance in the sector and preventing some companies from becoming predatory and making business unviable.

According to a report in the newspaper Domingo, the maximum ceiling to be applied will continue to be 5 to 6 meticais and the minimums to be introduced will be 0.72 meticais per minute for calls within the same network and 0.96 meticais for calls made to other networks.

"In the case of mobile data, known as megabytes, the minimum tariff will be 0.71 meticais/Megabyte, for text messages known as SMS, the minimum price will be 0.02 meticais/SMS and per session of use of the USSD code will be 0.15 meticais," reads the same publication.

However, according to the INCM, these figures include Value Added Tax (VAT).
