Lack of money is the biggest obstacle for developing countries in combating climate change - PR

Falta de dinheiro é o maior entrave dos países em desenvolvimento no combate às mudanças climáticas – PR

The President of the Republic (PR), Filipe Nyusi, considers the lack of funds to be the biggest obstacle for developing countries in combating and resilience to climate change.

According to Nyusi, who was speaking this Tuesday in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, on the sidelines of the COP27, these countries have little chance of succeeding in adapting and resilience to climate change.

"Poor countries invest in adaptation and resilience, but their financial capacity is very limited. The few developed countries alone cannot do much without sufficient support. There is little chance of success, despite the best intentions," said the PR, quoted by Rádio Moçambique.

Several developed countries and financial institutions taking part in COP27 have agreed to double funding for developing countries most vulnerable to climate change to deal with natural disasters.

The summit of heads of state and government on climate change came to a close on Tuesday. However, COP27 continues to pursue its work agenda until November 18th. At the end, the delegations of the participating countries are expected to adopt a work program to urgently increase the ambition and implementation of mitigation to reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Filipe Nyusi arrived in Maputo city this morning after attending the summit of heads of state and government on climate change (COP27) in the tourist city of Sharm El Sheik, Egypt.
