Rains disrupt trains linking Maputo to South Africa and Eswatini

Chuvas interrompem circulação de comboios que ligam Maputo a África do Sul e Essuatíni

The company Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) announced today, Wednesday (27), the interruption of train traffic on the Ressano Garcia line, which connects the Port of Maputo to South Africa, due to the damage caused by the heavy rain that has occurred in recent days in the city and province of Maputo.

Some parts of the 88-kilometre line were buried and others were suspended due to the platform being washed away by rainwater.

According to the head of the Passenger Transport Service at the Ports and Railways Company of Mozambique (CFM), Iara Popinsky, train traffic on the Goba line, which connects the Port of Maputo to the Kingdom of Eswatini, has also been interrupted.

"We had the railway line buried, and in other places the water ended up dragging the platform," she said, quoted by the Radio Mozambique.

On the other hand, the company Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique announced that train traffic on the Limpopo line has been restored.
