Mozambican exporters of products to China will soon be able to benefit from a reduction in the customs duties applied to the shipment of goods. To this end, Mozambique and China recently initialed a Preferential Treatment Agreement for Goods Originating in Mozambique.

The memorandum provides for Mozambican products to benefit from a 98% discount on customs duties to enter China, according to Mozambique's ambassador in Beijing, Maria Gustava.

Quoted by Notícias, she explained that there are still some details to be worked out, given the ease with which they will enter the Chinese market. "At the moment we're working on the phytosanitary aspects and registering the companies that will be able to export to China."

Mozambique already exports mineral, fishing, agricultural and wood products to China. Mozambique imports machinery, manufactured goods and construction materials from China.

"We want more investment in industry, especially in agro-processing and minerals, because that creates more jobs," he said.
