Financial transactions between Mozambique and the world fell to almost 2.1 MM$ in the third quarter

Transações financeiras entre Moçambique com o mundo caíram para quase 2,1 MM$ no terceiro trimestre

Financial transactions between the Mozambican economy and the rest of the world resulted in a net inflow of funds of approximately 2.1 billion dollars, compared to 2.2 billion in the same period in 2023.

The data is contained in the quarterly Balance of Payments (BoP) bulletin, published by the Bank of Mozambique (BdM), to which the MZNews had access to, pointing out that this result represents a drop of 8.3%.

"The decrease in the net inflow of funds was mainly due to the net contracting of financial assets recorded in the Other Investment category, which amounted to almost 1.1 billion dollars, in a context in which net liabilities in the form of direct investment increased by 44.5%, equivalent to 856.8 million," reads the BdM document.

In addition, the central bank states that excluding Major Projects (GP), the balance of the financial account stood at 3.6 billion dollars, which represents a 13.9% drop in net inflows of financial resources, mainly due to the 777.5 million dollar drop in net contracting of resources in the Other Investment category.

Overall, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stood at 2.7 billion dollars in the period in question, representing an increase of 44.7% when compared to the same period in 2023.
