Saipem expects the gas project to restart in mid-2022

Saipem espera que o projecto de gás reinicie em meados de 2022

The Italian multinational, Saipem, which operates in the oil area, expects the large LNG project in Mozambique to restart in mid-2022, this after the suspension for safety reasons.

The Italian operator believes that Mozambique will play an important role in achieving the financial objectives set by the company.

"To reach our revenue target in 2022, we also have to consider Mozambique's contribution," CFO Antonio Paccioretti told analysts on a conference call, quoted by Reuters news agency.

In late April, French energy group Total declared a force majeure on its $20 billion liquefied natural gas project in Mozambique after insurgent attacks.

Saipem, a market leader in subsea engineering and construction, also said that as of the end of September, the project remains in backlog for an amount of approximately $4.18 billion.

The multinational repeated that it does not anticipate any significant contribution from the project for the remaining months of 2021.
