The National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) said Wednesday that overall, consumer prices for major products remained stable during the week of December 6-12, 2021.
"From the analysis made last week, there was a slight appreciation in the price of some products such as potatoes, onions and eggs, and a reduction in the price of tomatoes," said the Head of the INAE's Department of Operations Education, Culture and Sports, Joaquim Langa.
In the week prior to the period under review, from November 29th to December 5th, the box of tomatoes was between 650 and 1200 meticais, and dropped to between 250 and 600 meticais in the week from December 6th to December 12th.
Potatoes, which used to cost between 120 and 300 meticais, per bag, last week were sold between 130 and 380 meticais; onions, which used to cost between 150 and 330 meticais, went up in price to be sold between 130 and 350 meticais; a box of 15 combs of 30 eggs used to cost between 1380 and 1400 meticais, last week they were sold between 1400 and 1450 meticais.
Other products such as second quality fish (1700 and 1800 meticais), frozen chicken (280 and 320 meticais), rice (1110 meticais), corn (400 meticais) and wheat (500 meticais) flour, cooking oil (600 and 700 meticais), brown sugar (650 meticais) and butter beans (3800 and 4000 meticais) did not register any variation.
According to the responsible, the relative stabilization of prices was due to the supply of domestic products and good access conditions to the production fields, machambas "by the non-occurrence of rains.
INAE reiterates that the brigades formed also by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique and the Municipal Council of Maputo City "are doing the control in all economic units to ensure the stability of prices.
