PR entrega insumos agrícolas à 30 mil famílias na Zambézia

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, is handing over 30,000 agricultural input kits to 30,000 families today in Quelimane, Zambezia, as part of the Sustenta emergency program.

The event will be attended by three thousand producers, representing the thirty thousand who will benefit from the inputs.

The spokesman for the Zambezia Provincial Peasants' Union says that the offer comes at a good time, as there is still moisture in the fields, which allows the agricultural campaign to be relaunched through the second season.

Preliminary figures from the agriculture sector in Zambezia indicate that the effects of tropical cyclone Freddy have affected three hundred and twenty-five thousand hectares, of which one hundred and twenty-eight thousand have been completely lost.

The peasants will have lost crops of around 1.3 million tons of various products.

The spokesperson for the Zambezia Provincial Farmers' Union, Rosário Francisco, says that for the south of Zambezia, where the damage from the cyclone was quite severe, the priority will be for tubers, beans and vegetables(RM)
