Ossufo Momade escapes assassination orchestrated by a Renamo general

Ossufo Momade escapa à assassinato orquestrado por um general da Renamo

Renamo President Ossufo Momade revealed today that he escaped an assassination attempt orchestrated by reserve general Tinosse Mackenzie, and accused him of being a tribalist.

"I've never told you this before, but I'm going to tell you today because we have to put an end to this whole fallacy. We went to the congress [in 2019], and the whole country was there. We held the congress democratically. Each candidate had their candidate delegates, and we came out winners. Mackenzie and his friends, including one who said I had killed him, in the meantime, after the results were announced, drew up documents to invalidate the results. Not only for that, but also to take the life of Ossufo Momade," he revealed, speaking on the Center for Public Integrity Podcast "CIP Cast".

According to Momade, Mackenzie and his group of Renamo members did not agree with the elevation of a new leadership. He says he has proof of this "accusation" of murder.

"Why should I say something that I have no proof of? And I have witnesses and it was they who saved my ass," he continued. "Yes, there was a plan. I have to say that to make things clear," he stressed.

Renamo's president went on to say that after learning of the plan to assassinate him, he responded by hugging Mackenzie, and even guaranteed that he would be able to live after falling ill.

Ossufo Momade also said that Tinosse Mackenzie is a tribalist and is serving the interests of other Renamo members. In his view, Tinosse Mackenzie is being manipulated by other Renamo members interested in splitting the party.
