"We're not taking our time publishing the election results... We're looking for the electoral truth" says Lúcia Ribeiro

“Não estamos a demorar publicar os resultados eleitorais… Estamos à procura da verdade eleitoral” diz Lúcia Ribeiro

The President of the Constitutional Council (CC), Lúcia Ribeiro, explained this afternoon that the body is within the legal deadline for announcing the results of the General Elections of October 9, 2024.

She was speaking during an audience with the leadership of the Optimist Party for the Development of Mozambique (Podemos), which supports the independent presidential candidate, Venâncio Mondlane.

According to Lúcia Ribeiro, this apparent delay in publishing the results is due to the exercise of comparing the results obtained at the polling stations.

On the other hand, he explained that the period until the announcement of the results is supported by the law, since it must be done within 20 days of the current composition of the Assembly of the Republic leaving office.

He clarified that, in this sense, even if the work in the CC had been completed, in the eyes of the law, the body should not disclose and legitimize the results, from the point of view of incurring an irregularity by overlapping, in the same time frame, two parliamentary structures.

In addition, Lúcia Ribeiro pointed out that the work at the CC, including the comparisons of different minutes and notices, had to do with the need to find the electoral green.
