Vilankulo Municipality places signs on beaches to prevent drowning

Município de Vilankulo coloca sinalização nas praias para evitar afogamentos

The City Council of Vilankulo, in Inhambane, is putting up signs at places for bathers to dive, fishing boats to launch or for transporting people and cargo, to indicate dangers of the strong currents that can culminate in drowning.

The measure aims to provide safety to users during the approaching summer, where most of Vilankulo's beaches experience floods of bathers, including national and foreign tourists, who in some cases, by distraction, dive in risky places, situations that sometimes result in drowning.

According to the president of the Municipal Council of Vilankulo, Williamo Tunzine, quoted by the newspaper Notícias, the reinforcement of maritime surveillance is part of the preparations for the final phase of the African Beach Soccer Cup that will take place from October 21 to 28, next, in that tourist spot.

Given the magnitude of this event, the mayor reiterated the appeal for the need for compliance with maritime safety measures by all those who go to the beaches, especially visitors who will be visiting Vilankulo for the first time.

"We ask all the users of our beaches not to sabotage or ignore the signs that we have fixed on all the places that we consider to be at risk. We do this activity with the sole purpose of safeguarding human life. The signs indicate, for example, where diving can be done and places that are prohibited due to the risk they represent," he explained.

According to him, the signaling work underway along the entire coastal strip is carried out in coordination with the Maritime Administration authorities.
