Mozambique is considering negotiating with South Africa the creation of a specialized border for trucks at Ressano Garcia

Moçambique pondera negociar com África do Sul a criação de fronteira especializada para camiões na Ressano Garcia

The government is considering negotiating with neighboring South Africa the creation of a specialized border for trucks passing through the Ressano Garcia crossing points destined for the port of Maputo and vice-versa.

The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, considers that this solution can decongest traffic on National Road number 4 (EN4), allowing to maximize the gains of the Maputo corridor.

"It is important to talk again with our neighbors in South Africa, maybe even think about a specialized border just for this traffic, to decongest Ressano Garcia in the way that it is and then at some point of this section, divert this road traffic to another system and then can pass through the Maputo/Katembe bridge and flow directly into the Port of Maputo, from where we remove all traffic, which is what we see from Matola to here, a serious problem. So we are also thinking about this variable," said Carlos Mesquita quoted by Radio Mozambique.

The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, was speaking this weekend at a workshop on the Maputo Development Corridor, which brought together government and infrastructure operators and users of this economic zone.
