"Mozambique has entered the crucial phase of fighting terrorism" - Filipe Nyusi

The President of the Republic said that the country has entered a crucial phase in the fight against terrorism, in a reference to the beginning of foreign support operations in Cabo Delgado.

In a communication to the nation this Sunday, 25, Filipe Nyusi highlighted the entry of troops from Rwanda (already on the ground) and SADC, yet to arrive, as being "an action of solidarity with the country that should not be viewed with any fear by Mozambicans.

According to Nyusi, there is no quid pro quo being demanded by partners to help the country, but only a spirit of solidarity and help in this fight against what he called the "global fight against terrorism."

In an assessment of the current situation in Cabo Delgado, Nyusi said that the "correlation of forces is in our favor."

"The situation is substantially better than it was a few months ago," he said, stressing, however, that there are pockets of instability in some places that are still in the hands of the insurgents.

One of the points is the town of Auasse which until today was experiencing intense fighting with the terrorists trying to take back the area, which was under their control until recently.

Four years after the insurgents' incursions began, Nyusi said that there is still no clarity about the group's intentions, however, citizens from Mozambique and other parts of Africa and Asia have already been identified as being involved.

About two thousand dead, 817 thousand displaced, 46 schools and more than 10 health units are some impacts disclosed by the Mozambican Head of State during the communication.
