Nampula's provincial health director, Selma Xavier, warned that three health units remain closed in the Mogovolas district, due to resistance and misinformation in some communities.
According to the official, quoted by Rigor newspaperIn addition, efforts are underway to reopen two of these units in the coming days, thanks to dialogue with local leaders and the mobilization of logistical resources. "We've already managed to reopen the health center in Namitil, in the district of Mogovolas, and we're working to get two more health units up and running. The only thing missing is the health center in Nanhupo Rio, which still requires work on the ground," he explained.
The province still has five districts affected by the outbreak, which has caused 2,822 cases and 39 deaths since the beginning of the year, including a recent death in Nampula. The director reiterated that the situation still requires vigilance, as the outbreak has not yet been declared over.
In the same publication, Selma Xavier acknowledged that without community involvement, it will be difficult to contain the spread of the disease. For this reason, "mobilization actions are being stepped up with religious leaders, churches, mosques and local radio stations, with the aim of transmitting prevention messages and combating misinformation".
The districts of Angoche and Murrupula continue to stand out as the most critical in terms of the spread of rumors, which has hampered the response to the cholera outbreak.
"We are also working with the Social Communication Institute to increase the dissemination of educational messages, at a time when the population is still resistant to accepting health services," he said.
Despite the challenges, the treatment centers remain active, with adequate stocks of medication and health personnel mobilized to provide assistance.
