Mozambique sets gold production record

Moçambique bate recorde na produção de ouro

The Kimberley Process Management Unit announced today that gold production in Mozambique during 2021 was set at 800 kilograms, surpassing the previous year's record of 545 kilograms.

The document states that the estimate for last year was 550 kilos, but so far "we are over 800 kilos."

The Kimberley Process Management Unit, under the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, also says that the assessment is not complete, with data from Manica, Zambézia and Tete provinces still to be calculated.

The Unit points out that the year 2021 was marked by the creation of technical brigades that have been screening the production of companies in the sector, in a plan that also includes groups that do artisanal mining.

The ambition of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy is to ensure that artisanal miners sell their product to marketing license holders, ensuring taxation and increasing revenues from production.
