The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), Carlos Zacarias, reaffirmed this Monday in Niassa his commitment to speeding up work so that mineral products extracted in Mozambican territory can be processed there.
The aim is to add value to minerals, including graphite, heavy sands and coal, as well as to promote industrialization and create jobs.
The Minister was speaking in the city of Lichinga on the sidelines of the VII MIREME Coordinating Council.
On the occasion, he also highlighted the effort that must be made to guarantee the traceability of gems and precious metals. In this regard, the sector will work in parallel to create commercial warehouses, monitor and intensify mining inspection activities.
On the other hand, one of MIREME's priorities is to expand the country's electricity grid in line with the government's program to provide energy for all Mozambicans by 2030.
"The wide value chain associated with mineral resources and energy continually feeds society's expectations for a visible contribution from our sector in the development of our country," he said.
