The doctor and spokesperson for the Quelimane Central Hospital, Palmira Nascimento, said this morning that the state of health of the musician and political activist, Joel Amaral, better known as Mc Trufafá, is considered stable.

She said that Amaral had injuries to the front of his head.

"A thorough cleaning was carried out and no bullets were found. He's currently in our health unit... communicating... he's not in any danger and can now receive visitors," he said in an interview with Chuabo News.

It should be remembered that "Mc Trufafá" gained notoriety during the period of contestation against the results of the Municipal Elections of October 11, 2023, on the side of the Renamo party. But he also became notorious in 2024, when he chose to abandon the cause of that political formation in order to follow the political project of the main opponent of the Frelimo party, the then independent presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane.

Yesterday Mondlane repudiated the assassination attempt on Joel Amaral, and this morning he went to Quelimane Central Hospital to visit him.

In a message published yesterday, Mondlane called the assassination attempt another case of political intolerance that "prevails over human rights in Mozambique".

"The persecution of our members and any citizen who exercises their right to free expression must stop. It's time to unite against violence and oppression, and to demand a Mozambique where everyone can live in safety and dignity," he wrote.
