The Portuguese head of state, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, said this Sunday that he spoke with the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, about a trip to Cabo Delgado province, which could happen as early as August.
"Speaking with President Nyusi, we prepared the hypothesis that, in a future visit of mine, maybe in August, to Quelimane, we will study a visit to Cabo Delgado," Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa told Lusa and journalists in a Maputo hotel.
When asked if he will go to Cabo Delgado in August, he answered: "I don't know, if it's possible. It is a hypothesis that would be interesting to go to Cabo Delgado to see the result of what is the formation given. The men that I saw today in Chimoio will leave in a few days for Cabo Delgado".
Nevertheless, the Portuguese President made a "very positive" balance of this official visit to Mozambique, and reiterated the message that "the victory over terrorism is always a very difficult reality, because it doesn't only imply a military victory, but also an economic, social, political, and administrative victory.
Rebelo de Sousa also added that "it is necessary that the populations settle, have economic and social infrastructures, and that the normalization of life and security be long lasting. This is a longer reality".
Meanwhile, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa assured that Cabo Delgado "will continue to be a priority" for Portugal and expressed his conviction that the same will happen with the European Union and that the international community "will not forget" the matter.
