JICA invests 25 million dollars to improve water supply in Nampula

JICA investe 25 milhões de dólares para melhorar abastecimento de água em Nampula

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) recently made available just over 25 million dollars to support the Mozambican government in boosting investments aimed at improving water supply to the city of Nampula.

This is an amount that will be used for the implementation of the construction of 20 boreholes in the Namiteca neighborhood.

The fact was made known during the visit of the head of the Frelimo party's central assistance brigade to the province of Nampula, Eneas Comiche, who went to the dam that currently supplies water to the provincial capital.

Comiche also visited the new underground borehole system under construction in the Namiteca region, which will supply at least 500,000 new customers.

For the managers of the Water Supply Investment and Assets Fund (FIPAG), Nampula's operational area, the investments that are expected to be made with the amount made available will not end the difficulties, because the water crisis is related to the population growth that the city is experiencing in recent times.

However, JICA activities may end within two years, and for Comiche, the schedule presents a very long lead time, but there is hope for the residents of the country's third largest urban center.
