Government needs 15 M$ to resume construction of three bridges in Cabo Delgado

Governo necessita de 15 M$ para retomar a construção de três pontes em Cabo Delgado

The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, revealed last week that the government needs 15 million dollars to resume the construction of three bridges on National Road Number 380, which links Macomia to Awasse, in Cabo Delgado.

According to Carlos Mesquita, these are bridges over two tributaries of the Messalo River and the Mapwedi River, in the districts of Macomia and Muidumbe, respectively.

Speaking during a visit to the works, Mesquita stressed that "the Mozambican government is currently looking for new financial backers to complete these works, which have been abandoned for more than three years due to the terrorist attacks.

"Regional road 380 (Silva-Macua/Awasse) is of vital socio-economic importance, as it connects the northern, central and southern regions of Cabo Delgado," he said.

The Japanese embassy in Mozambique has officially announced that it will cancel its support for the construction of the bridge over the Messalo River, in the administrative post of Nairoto, in Cabo Delgado province, due to the insecurity caused by terrorist attacks, which are likely to increase.

In March, Keiji Hamada, the Japanese ambassador to Mozambique, acknowledged the importance of the infrastructure, as it facilitates the movement of people and goods, among other services, but noted that terrorism has not been facilitating the execution of the works.
