Government says heavy sands of Chibuto in Gaza have high commercial value

Governo diz que areias pesadas de Chibuto em Gaza têm alto valor comercial

Mozambique strengthened its position in heavy sand mining with the official start last Friday of the Chibuto heavy mineral extraction project in Gaza province, at a ceremony presided over by the Head of State, Filipe Nyusi..

The extraction project is going ahead with the prospect of revenue for the state estimated at 33 million dollars/year in IRPC alone

On the occasion, the statesman stressed that the persistence of Mozambicans had won out, as the project was marked by advances and setbacks by companies from various countries who claimed that the national raw material had no commercial value.

"After all, Chibuto has one of the largest reserves and best sands in the country," he said.

The President of the Republic explained that the project went through a self-risk phase during the research, which required resources and technical capacity. "I met with the investor several times to encourage him".

The statesman praised the Ding Sheng company, which owns the project, for helping to install equipment and helping the local population with their water supply.

He classified the venture as being of a large international scale, with strategic value for boosting the national economy, and which could generate 33 million dollars a year in Corporate Income Tax alone, plus a further 8 million in royalties a year over the life of the project.
