Government advocates more road checks to stop accidents

The Prime Minister, Benvinda Levy, said on Thursday (10) that reducing the levels of road accidents is one of the priorities of government action, because it has caused grief and pain in Mozambican families.

Speaking at a session to clarify the questions posed by MPs in Parliament, Benvinda Levy made it known that various actions are being carried out, with emphasis on intensifying road inspections and strengthening awareness-raising campaigns in key locations
population concentration.

According to the minister, quoted by Sunday newspaperIn addition, an information system is being set up to manage the hotspots for accidents. To this end, he pointed out that "motorists must not drive under the influence of alcohol or exceed the speed limit", as well as respecting pedestrian crossings and strictly observing traffic rules.

"This is the only way to make our roads safer and free from road accidents," he concluded.

Official figures indicate that a total of 825 people died in 2024 in the country as a result of road accidents, representing an increase of 9% compared to the 654 deaths recorded in 2023.
