Evergrande wants to turn from real estate to electric cars

Evergrande quer virar-se do imobiliário para carros elétricos

Real estate giant Evergrande, which is going through a crisis of significant dimensions, has signaled its intention to make electric cars its core business within a decade, reads a news website published minutes ago.

According to the Securities Times, Evergrande's "chairman," Hui Ka Yan, will be interested in cutting back on the real estate business and focusing on electric-powered vehicles.

And in this area of activity, the company owns the New Energy Vehicle Group, which so far has not brought a single electric car to customers.

Despite this scenario, this unit does not hide its plans to compete with companies such as the American Tesla, for example. If the chairman's change of course is confirmed, the New Energy Vehicle's production difficulties promise to be a challenge.

Just the fact that streetcars could become the company's core business within a decade was enough to excite investors. NEV shares were up as much as 17% in Hong Kong, closing the session with gains of 11%, to 4 Hong Kong dollars.
