ATM and POS work with obsolete system

ATM e POS funcionam com sistema obsoleto

The Governor of the Bank of Mozambique (BM), Rogério Zandamela, said that the constant failures of banking terminals (ATM and POS) are due to the fact that the devices are operating with obsolete systems.

He explained that such systems do not work at the current capacity installed by SIMO Rede, and that communication failures result in errors. The situation is notorious in older machines.

The recurrence of the failures led the WB to issue a communiqué last year reporting the findings and the institutions delayed in "adjusting their systems to the new platform".

"ATMs are old-fashioned. I don't know what century the POS is from. This new technology no longer communicates properly. I'm giving an example," he said, quoted by the supplement to the News, Economy and Business.

In the Governor's view, there is a lack of awareness on the part of the banks about the need to update their systems.
