Zambézia: Mais de 50 homens sofreram violência doméstica no primeiro trimestre deste ano

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), through the Office for the Care of Families who are Victims of Violence, in Zambézia province, revealed that it received 55 complaints of domestic violence against men in the first quarter of this year.

Despite the fact that it is difficult for a man to admit that he is suffering some kind of domestic violence, and even to file a complaint about this crime, the spokesman for the PRM in Zambézia, Sidner Lonzo, said that during the period under review, men stood out for breaking certain taboos and denouncing the abuse they suffer.

Quoted by Diário da ZambéziaSidner Lonzo pointed out that, from January to March this year, the Office for the Care of Families Victims of Violence in Zambézia received 176 cases, 55 of which were reported by men, while the remaining victims were women, children and the elderly.

"Simple physical violence, serious violence and violence against property stand out among the cases. Fortunately, none of the cases culminated in the victim's death," added the source, pointing out that jealousy, alcohol consumption, cultural inequalities, economic dependence and polygamy are the main causes of this crime, at least in Zambezia, with women and children being the biggest victims.
