Twitter blocks Kanye West account for posting threatening message

Twitter bloqueia conta de Kanye West por publicação de mensagem com conteúdo ameaçador

The social network Twitter has blocked the account of the American "rapper" Kanye "Ye" West, following a message considered antisemitic.

In the tweet, deleted for violating the rules of that platform, West threatened "the Jews" and wrote, "you have been playing games with me and trying to exclude anyone who opposes your agenda."

The "rapper," just returned to the social network after a two-year absence, further noted that he cannot be an anti-Semite "because black people are also actually Jewish."

Twitter indicated to various US media outlets that it had blocked West's account, without saying for how long, on the grounds that a violation of its usage policies had occurred.

Absent from the social network since November 2020, the artist had returned to Twitter this weekend after also being suspended from the Instagram platform for suggesting that "rapper" Sean Combs, better known as Diddy, was being controlled by Jews.

West's comments were widely criticized by numerous social media users, including political leaders and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an influential organization that fights antisemitism.

The return to Twitter of the well-known musician, who is now called Ye and has more than 31 million followers on the platform, was celebrated by billionaire Elon Musk, who is in the process of buying the social network for $44 billion (about €45 billion).

Last week, the "rapper" was at the center of another controversy for having worn, during a fashion show in Paris, a "t-shirt" with the message "White Lives Matter", a "slogan" often used by white supremacists in response to the anti-racism movement "Black Lives Matter". (RTP)
