Tmcel "breakaway" has not paid salaries for two months

Tmcel “separatista” não paga salários há dois meses

Tmcel workers have not been paid for two months and accuse the company's technical and commercial management of separatism and mismanagement of funds, leading to low income.

The telephone company's workers union, quoted to STV, said September and October salaries were missing.

"It's harmful management for the workers. They don't seem to be prioritizing the workforce first. If you look at it, this training and operations project. On the one hand, there's no money to pay the workers, but on the other, they prioritize training abroad"

The union also said that around 15 people attend these trainings, each of whom receives 3,750 dollars (241,875 meticais) as a subsistence allowance.

The workers say they demanded their rights in a letter, to which Tmcel's Board of Directors claimed there were insufficient funds.

"[...] the company is going through unique operational and financial challenges with no comparable record in its history, and the Board of Directors has urged the employees, as well as the representative bodies at union level, to work together to find solutions," reads a note from the company's board of directors.

The union then appealed to the Instituto De Gestão Das Participações Do Estado, the company's shareholder, to resolve the lack of payment of salaries, and is awaiting a response.
