Terrorism: South African SAMIM troops begin withdrawal process in Cabo Delgado

Terrorismo: Tropas sul-africanas da SAMIM iniciam processo de retirada em Cabo Delgado

The South African troops who helped fight terrorism in the northern province of Cabo Delgado began their withdrawal process on Monday (15). They are part of the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).

According to DefenceWebLast week, there was a farewell parade for the South Africans, marking the end of their stay in northern Mozambique.

Of the eight countries that make up SAMIM, Botswana was the first to withdraw. This will be followed by South Africa, with the remaining six, namely Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Malawi, Tanzania and Zambia, leaving the country by the end of July.

"With the departure of SAMIM, only the Rwandan contingent will remain, which has been helping the Mozambique Armed Defense Forces in their ongoing efforts to contain terrorist attacks. Currently, Rwandan troops are increasing community policing and civil/military cooperation in Cabo Delgado, and there are reports that the government of that country intends to add military personnel," the media outlet said.
