The price of bread in Mozambique may soon undergo an upward revision, considering the 100 metical increase in the price of the main ingredient for its production, wheat flour.
A document available to MZNews today indicates that "the price of Standard Wheat Flour will now cost 2.050 meticais against the previous 1.950 meticais.
According to the company Pembe Mozambique, Lda, the new price of the product starts to take effect as of today.
In the document the company claims that this worsening stems from the "war situation Russia and Ukraine," these two countries being the "main suppliers of wheat grain."
An attempt to obtain further clarification about the possible increase in the price of bread from Pembe Mozambique, Lda resulted in failure. In fact, the human resources department of the company referred our request to the commercial sector with promises to return the contact, which did not happen until the publication of this article.
From Russia, Mozambique exports several products, including wheat and yeast used in bread production. Those raw materials account for about 75% of Russian imports to Mozambique, followed by fertilizer (18%), according to an economic research center sponsored by Harvard University.
