Sasol resumes activities after the stoppage caused by the demonstrations

Sasol retoma actividades após a paralisação provocada pelas manifestações

The South African petrochemical company Sasol, which exploits natural gas in the province of Inhambane, is operating normally, after the stoppage due to the demonstrations that have been taking place since last October.

According to a NewsThe problem that led to the interruption of the South African multinational's activities was caused by an agitation by unidentified people in the community where the gas exploration takes place, claiming that the company is not fulfilling its promises to contribute to local development.

This time, they invaded and occupied the gas processing center, forcing officials to shut down the equipment and close the pipeline that supplies South Africa.

However, after these occurrences on the eve of Christmas, the company met with the community to deconstruct the narrative and explain that at least 80% of the population's wishes had materialized.

"There were some reports that SASOL was shutting down, but we've been informed that the company has resumed its activities. So everything is under negotiation with the community," said Silvino Moreno, pointing out that "some agitators misinformed the population, but in a meeting they clarified this and, fortunately, the company is operating normally."
