The real estate project to build 5,748 houses, aimed mainly at young Mozambicans, has a budget of around two billion meticais, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, announced today in Maputo.
Speaking at the launch ceremony for the "Phoenix" (Youth Housing) project in the Costa do Sol neighborhood, where the project will be implemented, Chapo said that the citadel will be completed in two and a half years (30 months). At its peak, during construction, more than 25,000 jobs will be created.
In addition to housing, there are plans to build commercial establishments, leisure spaces, such as "a tower for panoramic observation of the entire city of Maputo", a fitness circuit, a health center, a sports field, a soccer pitch, a community center and more.
The head of state said that the project would seek to preserve the area's environment by preserving the lagoons, which would serve as spaces for boat trips and children's playgrounds.
According to the President of the Republic, the project will open up space for housing loans, as the different apartment models will be aimed at the financial capacities of all social strata.
"The project is mainly aimed at young people, who are still at the stage of finding their first job, marriage and decent housing," he said.
