The CEO of French oil company Total, Patrick Pouyanné, is going against the grain of fossil exploration and says he intends to discover new oil fields.
During a general meeting of the company's shareholders, he said that the idea is not to stop oil exploration, "but to know when the demand for oil will reduce by 4%", not least because its demand is growing as the world's population grows.
At the end of the day, he believes that the reduction in oil exploitation would suffocate families in less developed countries.
Pouyanné criticizes the "new bible" in relation to the recommendations of the International Energy Agency, which bans all new oil and gas projects.
This year, the fourth largest oil company in the world and the largest in France celebrates its centenary. Patrick Pouyanné is to be reappointed for a second term at the head of TotalEnergies.
