Joint operations disrupt terrorists' ability to fight in Cabo Delgado

Operações conjuntas rompem capacidade combativa dos terroristas em Cabo Delgado

The joint military operations of the Armed Forces of Defense of Mozambique (FADM), the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) and Rwanda have achieved positive results in the fight against terrorism in the province of Cabo Delgado, creating disruptions in the combative and logistical capacity of the terrorists.

The information was advanced by the Minister of National Defense, Cristóvão Chume, during the meeting of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, which took place on Monday (7), in virtual format and was chaired by Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Deputy Prime Minister of Namibia and Chairperson of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.

At the event, Chume highlighted the conquest and consolidation of strategic points from which the terrorists projected attacks, recovery of weapons and ammunition, transmission radios, cell phones and computers.

Also recovered were operational documents, motorcycles, electric generators, satellite phones, tactical combat and radicalization manuals and the neutralization of a considerable number of terrorists, including some top leaders, operational commanders and radical ideologues, he said.

"Despite the positive results achieved by the Mozambican and friendly forces in the Northern Theater of Operations, the leader advocates an improvement in the surveillance capacity of the maritime, air and land spaces in the area of operations, greater capacity for interception, monitoring and blocking of communications, more effective intelligence operations, security and effectiveness in communications, improvement in the strategic projection capacity of the force, and capacity for reconnaissance and combat operations in low visibility environments," he said.

Currently, the security situation in Mozambique is stable, with state institutions in full operation.
