Picasso's works auctioned for over one hundred million dollars

Auction house Sotheby's announced that this Saturday 11 works by the Spanish painter Pablo Ruiz Picasso, better known by his last name, were auctioned for $108 million.

The 1938 painting "Femme au Béret Rouge-Orang," depicting Marie-Thérèse Walter, one of Picasso's muses, achieved the highest auction value, reaching $40.5 million.

The event took place at the Bellagio hotel and casino in Las Vegas, in the United States of America. There, 11 pieces were sold, namely, two ceramic sculptures and nine paintings, totaling 108 million dollars. Some of these works had been on display for several years.

These auctioned works are part of an art collection started more than 20 years ago by casino magnate Steve Wynn, former owner of the Bellagio Hotel.

The auction, which took place days before the 140th anniversary of Pablo Picasso's birth, is part of a strategy by the hotel to renew its art collection by including more works by women and emerging artists.
